Need More Energy?
Do you ever find yourself moving through the day, then all of the sudden… you hit a wall? Are you feeling unmotivated as the day wears on? Does your body feel heavy?
Likely, your energy has dropped. It could be because you’ve been stuck behind a desk or your computer, or maybe you just had a big lunch, and your body is using up a lot of your energy to digest the food. When low energy brings you down, please please don’t look for a snickers, a cup of coffee, or an energy drink to lift you up. The sugar and caffeine might give you a quick pick-me-up, but after that initial high wears off, you'll crash and feel even more drained
What you need is a quick way to rev up your energy. Here are 5 ways to hack your energy in 5 minutes or less!
1. Rock out with a “Dance Party.” Moving the body is KEY to changing our energetic state. Creating movement in the body is a natural energy booster, and increases blood flow to your heart, muscles, and brain. Get your body moving, even if you can spare only 5 minutes at a time, this will help keep your energy levels up throughout the day. Turn on your favorite song and rock out my dear friend! I’m always up for a virtual dance party! Let’s go!
2. Breathwork. Close your eyes, relaxing your entire body and taking three (3) deep inhaling breaths (through the belly). Put your hands on your belly if you need to, to help align the breath. *Many other breathwork techniques in my Hacking Your Energy Course.
3. Chug that H20 (water)! Did you know you can change your energetic state, simply by drinking water? Dehydration can leave you feeling drained and fatigued. You can tell you're well hydrated when you don't feel thirsty and your urine is light-colored. Try to get to the fridge or water cooler for a refill every few hours. The walk there will also help you wake up. *Pro Tip: You should be drinking at least half of your bodyweight in water each day!
4. Get outside. Yes, even for just 5 minutes - whether it’s the blazing hot dead of summer and/or during the frozen tundra of winter. Getting outside boosts your natural energy, provides you with “FREE” aromatherapy, enhances your creativity; and scientists believe that breathing in phytoncides - airborne chemicals produced by plants - increases levels of white blood cells, helping us fight off infections and diseases… win, win, win. Going outside can even improve your self-esteem. If you absolutely can't get out, at least open the shades and get some natural light in your space.
5. Grab a cinnamon stick or an essential oil! Some people say that just a whiff of this scented spice can enhance your energy, and make you feel more alert. No cinnamon handy? Grab some mint or a peppermint. Peppermint's sweet aroma is another great choice to shift your energy for the better!
Additionally, Essential oils are an amazing way to fuel your body energetically, as well as anchor new emotional states so that when you’re feeling less than your optimal self, these natural remedies are just the ticket! Check out some of my favorites here!
6. Go nuts. Our brain needs fuel to function, and healthy fats are just the ticket. Eat a handful of macadamia nuts or marcona almonds. which are high in healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, like magnesium and folate (folic acid). These nutrients are essential for energy and cell production. A lack of these nutrients in your system can leave you feeling less than your optimal self.
7. Get Grateful. What is one thing you can be grateful for right now in this very moment? You got it? Ok, now it’s time to stack. What else can you be grateful for right now in this very moment? Ok, what else can you be grateful for, right now, in this very moment?
Expressing gratitude improves mental, physical and relational well-being. It’s a proven fact that you cannot be upset, frustrated, angry or sad when you are in a state of gratitude. So, close your eyes and start stacking baby!
